Uinta Mountaineering

I created the following slideshow to advertise a mountaineering trip that I am co-leading this summer in the Uinta Mountains in North East Utah. The images are from past trips with Waterford students in the Olympic Mountains. Watching these slides, accompanied by Tom Petty's, Wildflowers, piqued my excitement for the trip. Now to just get students to sign up...

Rock On...

This past Saturday, nine Upper School climbers with a hardy constitution braved the mid-40 degree weather and spent a day climbing on bitterly cold rock under glorious skies at Lisa Falls. Above, John Powers cranks his moves over an actively forming ice-fall. Throughout the afternoon, giant sheets of cubed ice would rattle down the ice fall, making everyone jump and grab their helmets. I was reminded of the noises that giant soda machines emit as they replenish the ice in their voluminous mouths.

And now, ice is falling from the sky in the form of beautiful, one-of-a-kind crystals. We may well have captured one of the last climbing days of the 2008 season.
